Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci was born on November 12, 1961, within Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej (now Onesti), Romania. Nadia is the Romanian Olympic gymnast. She holds the record for being recognized with 10/10 scores in an Olympic performance. Bela Karolyi, later Romanian Gymnastics Coach discovered Comaneci when she was just six years old. The first time she competed at the junior national championships in 1969 and finished 13th. She won the competition in the year 1970. Three gold medals were awarded in her debut competition, a junior pre-Olympic meet in 1972, which was a communist bloc countries. Between 1973 and 1974, she was the junior champion in all-round competitions. At her first competitive event in senior level, Lyudmila Turkishcheva from Russia took home five gold medals aswell being awarded a silver. In 1976, she took home the American Cup at the New York City Olympics and became the first woman in history to dismount the parallel bars with the double backward salto.
